Shoulder and Arm Pain

Shoulder / Arm Pain / Frozen Shoulder – holistic chiropractic treatment

Pain in the shoulder and arm area is influenced by several regional anatomic factors AND is influenced as well by physiology quite far from the shoulders – that is, structural balance in the pelvis and low back.

The locked or “frozen shoulder” is perhaps one of the most distressing types of shoulder problem. (The therapeutic techniques needed to release a frozen shoulder also apply for the treatment of other shoulder problems.) Many factors contribute to a shoulder “locking up.”

  • Displaced and “fixated” ribs reflexively weaken some of the primary anterior shoulder support muscles, and hence an imbalanced pull is placed on the shoulder joint. The result is that the humerus bone which normally seats in the center of the shoulder socket is pulled off center and cannot move easily into abduction (motion away from the midline of the body.) A specialized method of removing fixation from ribs can be a powerful start to releasing a frozen shoulder.
  • All the other bones of the shoulder, especially the clavicles and scapula, must be chiropractically evaluated for normal positioning, and adjusted and repositioned where necessary. Applied kinesiology treatments should be administered to balance and synchronize all the shoulder muscles. The recommendations here for frozen shoulder (one of the most difficult shoulder conditions) also apply to other shoulder issues in general.
  • Positioning of skull bones and neck vertebrae must be evaluated and corrected by chiropractic manipulation or applied kinesiology procedures to bring greater range of motion to the shoulder joint.

  • Since 2009 a holistic chiropractic technique has been developed to help purge toxic metals from the body by the use of specially formulated homeopathic formulas. Curiously, when these homeopathics are administered (there are currently 15 to choose from), one of the unexpected benefits has turned out, in many cases, to be a substantially increased range of motion, especially at the shoulder joint.
  • When the feet, legs, pelvis and lower back are not in balance, torsional forces are transmitted from lower in the body upwards toward the shoulder area. Lower body imbalances definitely contribute to should joint dysfunction. Proper spinal and soft tissue chiropractic manipulation can be very helpful in these cases.

Arm pain is substantially influenced by the status of the nerves that exit the spaces (foramina) between vertebrae in the neck. When bones in the neck are displaced from normal, the abnormal pressure that develops typically contributes to a weakening of arm muscles due to spinal nerve compression. This is corrected by the use of the most appropriate chiropractic adjustment technique that applies to the individual situation. Chiropractic adjustments are NOT generic! They depend on the artistry of each individual chiropractor.
